Thigh liposuction is the second most common type of liposuction we perform on a daily basis, right after abdominal liposuction. Whether it is to reduce fat deposits on the inner thighs, outer thighs (saddlebags), front of the thighs, or all three, known as 270-degree thigh liposuction, this procedure offers visible and long-lasting results. The back of the thighs should never be liposuctioned (except for the banana roll under the buttocks, which can sometimes also give poor results). After thigh liposuction, many of our patients report a significant improvement in their everyday comfort, particularly when choosing clothes and a feeling of lighter legs.

How does thigh liposuction work?

Before the procedure: Personalized analysis

During your first consultation, Dr. Favre will carefully examine your needs. We determine whether thigh liposuction alone will suffice or whether other areas also need to be treated for a balanced result. It is common for liposuction of the saddlebags to be accompanied by liposuction of the inner thighs and the front of the thighs—all three areas together are referred to as 270-degree thigh liposuction. We will analyze your weight and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat. It is important to have a stable weight before the operation. It is also a good idea to lose weight after the procedure to refine the results. We will also assess the quality of the skin to check whether it will be able to retract well after the procedure. If the skin is loose, options such as Renuvion to tighten the skin without scarring may be considered. Preoperative tests, such as a blood test, are performed to ensure that there is no anemia or bleeding disorder before the operation.

The procedure: precision and innovation

Before entering the operating room, the areas to be treated are marked while the patient is standing to ensure perfect symmetry. The markings are made by Dr. Favre and the patient checks them in front of a mirror and gives her consent for the procedure. The areas are then disinfected while the patient is standing so that the procedure can be performed under completely sterile conditions. The patient lies down on the operating table and the anesthesiologist puts her to sleep if deep sedation has been chosen. A Klein solution is injected through small incisions of about 3 mm. This reduces pain and minimizes post-operative bruising. The fat is suctioned out using the Microaire PAL technique, which guarantees high precision and a smooth, uniform appearance. The procedure generally lasts between 1 and 2 hours if only liposuction of the thighs is performed. It is performed on an outpatient basis. After the patient wakes up, several checks are carried out in a standing position during the procedure to ensure perfect symmetry.

After the procedure: the post-operative protocol is as important as the operation itself

You will be given antibiotics for 4 days. A special Marena compression garment is fitted immediately after the procedure. This promotes skin adaptation and helps reduce swelling. The garment must be worn day and night for 3 weeks, then only at night for the following 3 weeks. Swelling is often significant after thigh liposuction. It usually begins to subside after 3 to 4 weeks (unlike hip liposuction, where the results are visible very quickly after the operation). A discharge of the tumescent solution mixed with blood is normal in the first few hours after the procedure. You may shower 48 hours after the procedure. It is advisable to limit long periods of standing during the first week to reduce the risk of swelling. Pain similar to muscle soreness may occur, but this usually disappears within one to two weeks. In the case of thigh liposuction, we do not necessarily recommend LPG Endermologie massage sessions. The final results are visible after 3 to 6 months, once the swelling has completely subsided.

Thigh liposuction is ideal for removing stubborn fat that does not respond to diet or exercise. Unlike other areas such as the inner thighs, where skin sagging can occur, the results are often spectacular, especially if the skin is elastic. If the skin quality is not optimal, we will offer you solutions to tighten the skin, such as Renuvion, which tightens the skin through the same small holes used for liposuction. If the skin is really too loose, solutions such as a thigh lift will be offered. However, we only resort to this technique as a last resort, as thigh lifts leave large scars.
If you want a complete reshaping, thigh liposuction can be combined with other areas such as the hips or knees for a more harmonious silhouette. We also regularly perform hip dip lipofilling (injection of your own fat) to give the silhouette a more harmonious contour.
