Before the procedure
During the consultation, Dr. Favre assesses the amount of fat to be removed and the quality of the skin to determine whether liposuction alone is sufficient or whether additional treatment, such as Renuvion, is necessary to tighten the skin. In the case of patients with excessive skin laxity in the neck, a facelift may be necessary, which is why we refer them to a facial surgery specialist. A preoperative assessment is carried out to check for anemia or coagulation disorders to ensure that the procedure can be performed safely.
The procedure
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, as liposuction in this area is often relatively painless. However, we can offer the procedure under general anesthesia. Before the operation, the areas to be treated are marked. An incision is made in the chin crease and two others under the angle of the jaw. A tumescent solution is then injected to reduce bleeding and facilitate fat extraction. Liposuction is performed using fine micro-cannulas for a precise and natural result. The procedure lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis.
After the procedure
Here is our post-operative protocol:
• Wear a compression chin strap around the neck for 7 days to reduce swelling and help the skin adapt. This chin strap is very visible, which is why we recommend avoiding social activities for a week.
• A 4-day course of antibiotics, such as Ciproxine, will be prescribed to prevent infection.
• Slight bruising and swelling may occur.
• This area causes almost no pain after the procedure.
• Light activities can be resumed the next day and sports after 3 weeks.
The first results are visible quickly, but the final refinement of the chin and neck is noticeable after 3 months, once the swelling has completely subsided.
