Breast lift
With age, pregnancy, or significant weight loss, the skin loses its tone and the breasts lose their shape. Sagging breasts often no longer match the body image that women have of themselves. In these cases, a breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, can restore the breasts to their original position. See also the breast augmentation page for more information!

How is a breast lift performed?
Before the procedure
During the initial consultation, we will ensure that a breast lift is the right procedure for you. We will clarify any questions you may have about your general health and family history of breast disease, and we will measure various parameters of the breast. An ultrasound examination and/or mammogram before the operation is standard. We strongly recommend that you stop smoking 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after the operation.
During the procedure
On the day of the breast lift, we take photos of the chest in a standing position before the procedure. We then draw the future contour of the breast, also in a standing position. An anesthesiologist will inform you about the general anesthesia that will be used. The procedure takes about 2 to 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. For moderate sagging, breast augmentation using implants or fat is performed, leaving only minimal scarring. For more severe sagging, another incision around the areola and vertically below the areola is necessary. The excess skin is removed and a smaller, firmer breast is formed, the areola is reduced and the nipple is raised to its new position.
After the procedure
After the operation, the chest is immobilized with a tight bandage. You must wear a metal-free sports bra for 6 weeks after the procedure. If your procedure requires a vertical scar and a scar around the areola, the stitches can be removed 3 weeks after the operation, and the remaining stitches will dissolve. After 3 weeks, you can treat the scar with a special scar ointment and silicone patches.
Risks and side effects
Immediately after breast reduction, swelling and sensory disturbances may occur in the breast area. These usually disappear after a few weeks. Disturbance of the blood supply to the nipple is also possible. The ability to breastfeed may be limited or even lost after the operation. Unsightly scars may appear. Postoperative bleeding and infections are rare.

General information
A side effect of aging or weight loss is the loss of skin tone and elasticity. When breast sagging is moderate and the breasts are relatively small, breast augmentation with autologous fat or breast augmentation with a silicone implant may be sufficient to enhance the shape of the breasts. The advantage of this technique is that it leaves only a small scar around the nipple and along the breast. If the breasts are more sagging, some skin and fat must be removed. A scar around the areola and extending vertically is then often necessary.
