FAQ
Brazilian butt lift

Am I a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The most suitable people for BBL are those with a stable weight and a body mass index below 30, who have localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet or sport, and who have a realistic expectation of the result to be achieved. The best areas for fat gain are the flanks and stomach. Good skin elasticity will also enable the skin to tighten after liposuction. In principle, anyone in good general health is suitable for BBL.

How much fat can be injected during BBL?/h2>

On average, we inject between 400 and 1300 ml. of fat per buttock in one session. The quantity injected depends on the volume removed and also on the volume of the buttock before the procedure, as well as the resistance of the skin and fatty tissue under the skin.

Is the result long-lasting after BBL?

The result is lasting as long as the weight remains stable after the operation. Weight is considered stable when there is no change of more than 3 to 4 kilos after the operation. Fat uptake in the buttocks varies from patient to patient, but fat uptake is often extremely good with BBL compared to other fat injections such as breast lipofilling. We use the same technique for fat collection and injection in the buttocks as Dr. Aslani of Cirumed – a pioneer in BBL.

Can we make a second BBL?

Yes, it is possible to perform a second BBL if there is still a significant layer of fat or if another area can be liposuctioned. The advantage of a second BBL is that the fat sets even better than during the first BBL session. You need to wait 6 months before you can repeat the procedure.

How safe is the BBL procedure?

We specialize in BBL safety. Our method involves injecting fat under the skin, not into the buttock muscle. We use only special cannulas with blunt 4 mm tips, rather than the sharp syringes recommended internationally. To date, EVL is the only technique in the world that avoids the risk of fat embolism during buttock lipofilling. Our technique guarantees the safety of BBL surgery. Other risks associated with buttock lipofilling include asymmetry and lipo necrosis. All in all, these are rare. The “frequent” and partially avoidable risks after liposuction are irregularities and seromas. The risk of irregularity can be minimized by carrying out post-procedure checks in the standing position, and making corrections directly if necessary. Seroma is the accumulation of fluid in the tissues under the skin. Sitting or lying on the stomach for the first 2 weeks after surgery drastically reduces the risk of seroma.

How should I prepare for the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure?

A blood test is required prior to the procedure. When liposuction of the abdomen is performed, an ultrasound scan to check for hernias is systematically carried out. As with many other surgical procedures, patients should refrain from smoking for three weeks before and four weeks after the operation, and you may be asked to stop taking certain medications. You will be asked to fast before the operation, and you should ensure that all your concerns have been discussed with our team. We also recommend that you purchase the BBL cushion in advance. There are a number of different BBL cushion models available, and we leave it up to the patient to choose the one that suits him or her best

What can I expect after a BBL?

A panthy, also known as a compression garment, will be put in place immediately after the procedure. Compression garments are necessary and vital to your recovery and results. It supports the skin’s adaptation processes and must be worn for three weeks, day and night. During the first night after surgery, liquid from the tumescent solution will come out of the small incisions. The first shower can be taken 48 hours after liposuction. Antibiotic prophylaxis is required for three days. Pain is often cramp-like, appearing a few hours after the procedure. Most surgical procedures require a period of rest and relaxation after the operation. To allow your body to heal and recover effectively, you should avoid prolonged standing for the first two weeks. Sport should be avoided for the first 8 weeks. You should sleep on your front, not on your back or sides, to avoid putting pressure on your buttocks. You should sit on a BBL cushion for the first 6 weeks after surgery. We recommend that you buy the BBL cushion in advance. There are a number of different BBL cushion models, and we leave it up to the patient to choose the one that suits him or her best.

Is BBL surgery painful?

We offer liposuction and fat injection in the buttocks under local anesthesia, deep sedation or general anesthesia. Good candidates for BBL under local anaesthetic are those with a moderate to high threshold of resistance to physical pain. During the consultation, we gather the necessary information to assess your pain tolerance. Under deep sedation or general anaesthesia, you feel no pain at all. On average, we operate on one out of every two patients under local anaesthetic, and one out of every two under deep sedation or general anaesthetic.

What does the price of a BBL include?

We attach great importance to a transparent pricing policy. Everything is included in the price, from the consultation to the operation, including post-operative consultations, post-operative medication and panthy. The BBL cushion is the patient’s responsibility. BBL cushions come in a variety of shapes and brands. We leave it up to the patient to choose the model that suits her best. In the case of tummy tuck liposuction, we request an ultrasound of the tummy prior to the procedure. This is usually paid for by the health insurance company. We can give an estimate of the price when we receive photos of the areas to be treated. The final price is only given during a consultation. There are no hidden costs or unpleasant surprises.

Where can I find a suitable BBL cushion?

BBL cushions come in a variety of shapes and brands. In general, there are cushions to be placed directly on the back of the thighs or circular cushions to avoid pressure on the buttocks when sitting. We leave it up to the patient to choose the model that suits her best from a number of online sites.

How much fat can be removed during liposuction before BBL?

For personal safety, we remove no more than 5 liters of fat per session. With conventional liposuction, we generally remove 2 to 3 liters of fat.

Is it normal to have nodules and hardening in the liposuction areas after BBL?

Yes, it is normal to have nodules and hardening in the liposuction areas after a BBL. One week after the procedure, the liposuctioned areas begin to indurate. Swelling and induration diminish after 2 to 3 weeks, and definitively after 3 to 6 months. To avoid irregularities and hardening of the treated areas due to soft tissue healing, LPG Endermologie treatment is strongly recommended one week after liposuction. LPG Endermologie can also be used to reduce minor irregularities and cellulite.

Can the skin sag in the liposuction area after BBL?

It should be borne in mind that with age, or in people who have undergone significant weight fluctuations, tissue elasticity decreases, which can sometimes lead to sagging skin in the liposuction areas. In cases where the skin is very loose prior to BBL, we recommend liposuction combined with a facelift. In borderline cases, we first suggest liposuction, which has the advantage of leaving only a very small scar. If the skin has indeed slackened after liposuction, we then propose a facelift of the area six months after liposuction. However, this is not a frequent occurrence

Can the fat removed by liposuction during BBL come back

It’s a question we’re often asked during consultations. As long as weight remains stable, fat will not return. Weight is considered stable when it does not change by more than 3 to 4 kilos after the operation. The fat cells removed do not have the capacity to multiply. However, liposuction does not protect against weight gain. Remaining fat cells may increase in volume again if weight increases by more than 3 to 4 kilos after the procedure.

When can I return to work after a BBL?

For office work, it is possible to return to work after 3 to 4 days, using a suitable cushion. Activities requiring standing should be resumed 2 weeks after the operation.

When can I resume sport after a BBL?

After liposuction and lipofilling of the buttocks, you should refrain from sport for 8 weeks. The fat cells injected, and hence the volume of the buttocks, are likely to be more strongly resorbed if sport is resumed too soon.

Why is it not necessary to install a drain after a BBL?

At Clinique Bellefontaine, we do not use a drain. On the one hand, we want to avoid unnecessary extra pain when removing the drain, and on the other, we want to avoid the extra scarring involved in placing a drain.

How long do I have to wear a panthy or compression garment after a BBL?

After surgery, you must wear a panthy day and night for 3 weeks. We provide you with a panthy immediately after the operation. They have a hole in the buttocks to prevent pressure on the fat injections. Our panthys are Marena ® brand and have a protective antiseptic layer on the inside. This can be removed for showering. It’s important to check their position regularly. The upper part of the panthy should be placed exactly at the level of the submammary fold. If the top of the panthy slips down, it risks leaving a permanent imprint

What are plates and how long do I have to wear them?

Plates are medical adhesive foams designed to reduce the risk of seroma. Plates are worn only when high-definition liposuction is combined with BBL, or sometimes in patients at risk of developing seroma. Plates should be removed and replaced after each shower. Plates must be worn for 2 weeks.

Why is it important to favour a sitting or prone position for the first 2 weeks after a BBL?

Sitting or lying down for the first 2 weeks after surgery reduces the risk of seroma. Seroma is the accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the tissues under the skin. It is not in itself dangerous, but it can sometimes cause tissue contractions, resulting in irregularities that are difficult to correct. The abdomen is an area where seromas can sometimes be found. To avoid seromas, you should wear the panthy for 3 weeks and avoid sitting or lying on your stomach for the first 2 weeks after the operation.

What is the size and visibility of incisions during a BBL?

As a general rule, incisions are between 3 and 5 mm in size. Thanks to the minimal size of the scar and its positioning in discreet areas, the scar remains barely visible. That’s the magic of BBL.

Should I avoid the sun and solarium after a BBL?

The sun should be avoided for the first 4 weeks after surgery. After that, you’ll need to apply a sunscreen 50+ cream to the scars until they turn white. Depending on skin type, it may take 3 to 12 months for the scar to turn white. Once the scar has turned white, there is no longer any need to use sunscreen.

What is the best way to treat BBL scars?

Here’s how we treat scars at Clinique Bellefontaine. 3 weeks after the operation, you can start massaging the scar with a Keli-Med healing cream 3 times a day. The most important thing is to avoid the sun or apply a 50+ sunblock cream to the scars until they turn white.

When can I take a shower after a BBL?

Showering is permitted 48 hours after the operation. After disinfecting the small scars, you can apply a Tegaderm waterproof dressing to the scars, which you can keep for subsequent showers. It is important to put on the compression garment and/or plates after the showe

What do we mean by wave or irregularity?

A wave or irregularity is a marked depression that forms in a fat removal area during BBL. It can occur if too much fat has been removed in relation to the surrounding area. To avoid this problem, a standing control is systematically carried out at the end of the procedure, enabling the necessary corrections to be made to avoid waves.

Why perform standing checks at the end of a BBL procedure?

The same body in the upright position does not look the same as the same body in the supine position. The standing check at the end of the procedure enables us to verify whether the fat injection in the buttocks is symmetrical. A correction can therefore be made directly at the end of the procedure. We can also check that there are no waves or, on the contrary, that there are areas that still need to be liposuctioned in the fat intake zones. This is systematically performed after every BBL. When deep sedation or general anaesthesia is used, we wait until the patient is sufficiently awake to perform these checks. This control has the great advantage of minimizing the risk of waves after the operation, and of checking the symmetry of the buttocks, so that no touch-ups are required 6 months later

Is there any way to support skin restructuring after BBL?

With modern liposuction techniques, where superficial fat can also be removed depending on the areas to be treated, skin tightening can be achieved with a technique called “fine tunnelling” in the liposuctioned areas. LPG Endermologie treatments can also, from the first week after liposuction, further promote and support skin firming.

How long should I wait after pregnancy before having a BBL?

We generally wait 6 months after giving birth to allow the body, and especially the stomach, to recover from the physical changes. It’s also important to wait until the end of breastfeeding before having a BBL.
