Thigh lift

After a major weight fluctuation or simply with age, excess skin can accumulate unsightly on the inner thighs. Unfortunately, it is not possible to “tighten” the skin of the thighs through exercise, creams or a change in diet and maintain firm skin. In this case, a thigh lift can improve the figure. The procedure consists of removing excess skin and fatty tissue from the inner thighs. In some cases, liposuction may also be performed in addition to the thigh lift.

General information

As we age, the skin on the thighs can become increasingly saggy. Significant weight loss can also cause sagging of the skin, but this can be surgically corrected by removing excess skin and fat from the inner thighs. The scar is located on the inner side of the thighs and is therefore not visible during most daily leg movements. Depending on the situation, liposuction may also be performed in addition to the thigh lift.

Treatment procedure
At the Bellefontaine Clinic

Before the procedure

During the first consultation we will make sure that a thigh lift is suitable for you. To do this, we will clarify questions about your general health, measure your body weight, height, fat percentage, thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer and the presence of stretch marks on the thighs. The areas to be treated are drawn and presented to you in front of a mirror. We inform you about the procedure of the operation, discuss the additional examinations required for the thigh lift, explain the applicable forms of anaesthesia and give an overview of the different stages of the healing process. Depending on the situation, liposuction may also be performed in addition to the operation. To avoid infections, the genital area must be shaved 12 hours before the procedure. In order not to endanger the wound healing process, it is strongly recommended not to smoke for about 14 days before and after the operation.

During the procedure

Immediately before the operation, we draw the exact areas of skin and fat to be removed while standing. A photo documentation is also made in advance. The scar is located on the inner side of the thighs and is therefore not visible during most daily movements of the legs. Occasionally, additional incisions are made in the groin with a T-shaped scar on the inner thigh. The thigh lift takes about 2 to 3 hours under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The duration depends on the amount of skin and fat to be removed. In some cases, additional liposuction is recommended.

After the procedure

You will need to wear a compression girdle around your thighs for 4 weeks. During the first 3 weeks you should not move your thighs as this could increase the tension on the scars. Exercise is not allowed until after 8 weeks. Good scar care with special creams, silicone patches and massages is also recommended after 4 weeks. In order to achieve a stable aesthetic result, it is important not to plan any major weight changes after the operation.

Risks and side effects

A thigh lift can cause bruising, swelling and fluid accumulation (seroma). Sensitivity disorders and scarring are also possible. Damage to nerves and blood vessels is rare.
