Thigh lift

A Thigh Lift is a surgical procedure that aims to lift and tighten the loose, sagging folds of skin in and around the thigh area. It is designed to remove excess tissue to leave a firmer, smoother contour and is suitable for patients who have experienced drastic or sudden weight loss where the tissue has been stretched and hangs down from the thighs (the buttocks can be treated with a buttock lift). Thigh Lifts are often combined with liposuccion to eliminate any unwanted fat in the thigh region. The overall effect is to deliver a more sculpted, aesthetically pleasing thigh, firmer to the touch and with tightened, smooth overlying skin.

General information

As you get older, the skin on the thighs can become looser and looser. Significant weight loss can also lead to sagging skin but can be corrected surgically by removing excess skin and fat from the inner thighs. The scar will be located on the inner thighs and will therefore not be visible for most of the daily leg movements. Depending on the situation, liposuction can also be used as a complement to the thigh lift.

Treatment procedure
At the Bellefontaine Clinic

Before the procedure

During the first consultation, we make sure that a thigh lift is the right choice for you. To this end, we clarify questions about the general state of health, we measure body weight, height, percentage of fat, thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer and the presence of stretch marks on the thighs. The areas to be treated are drawn and presented to you in front of a mirror. We inform you about the surgery, discuss the additional examinations required for the thigh lift operation, explain the forms of anaesthesia that can be applied and give an overview of the various stages of the healing process. Depending on the situation, a liposuction can also be performed in addition to the surgery. In order to avoid infections, the genital areas must be shaved 12 hours before the operation. In order not to endanger the wound healing process, it is strongly recommended not to smoke for about 14 days before and after the operation.

During the procedure

Just before the operation, we draw in a standing position, the exact areas of skin and fat that will be removed. A photo documentation is also carried out beforehand. The scar will be located on the inner thighs and will therefore not be visible for most of the daily leg movements. From time to time, additional incisions are made in the groin with a T-shaped scar towards the inner thigh. The thigh lift takes about 2-3 hours under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation. The duration depends on the amount of skin and fat to be removed. In some cases, an additional liposuction is recommended.

After the procedure

You will need to wear a compression sleeve on your thighs for 4 weeks. For the first 3 weeks, you should not use thigh movements that could increase the tension in the scars. Sport is only allowed after 8 weeks. Good scar care with specific creams, silicone patches and massages is also recommended after 4 weeks. To ensure a stable aesthetic result, it is important not to expect major weight changes after surgery.

Risks and side effects

A thigh lift can lead to bruising, swelling, accumulation of liquids (seroma). Sensory disturbances and scarring are also possible. Damage to nerves and blood vessels is rare.
