Breast augmentation with implants

The desire for breast augmentation with implants is very common among women in Lausanne, and it is the most popular surgical procedure in cosmetic surgery. Breast augmentation with implants can help women with small or sagging breasts achieve the desired volume and a more aesthetic breast shape. It is also possible to balance breasts of different sizes by placing implants of different sizes. In some cases, breast augmentation can be performed in Lausanne to correct a malformation or significant asymmetry between the two breasts. We can help you achieve your goal and gain a new image of your body and yourself.

Treatment procedure
At the Bellefontaine Clinic

Before the procedure

During the initial consultation in Lausanne, we will ensure that breast augmentation with implants is the right option for you. To this end, we will ask you questions about your general state of health. In order to choose the right size and shape of implant, you will be given several trial implants to try on in a specially designed bra so that you can decide which size and shape suits you best. A large mirror will allow you to see the future result. The size and type of breast implant will be discussed, as well as the type of skin incision and the position of the implant. An ultrasound examination and/or mammogram before the operation is standard, and smoking is strongly advised against for 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after breast augmentation in Lausanne.

During the procedure

During breast augmentation with implants in Lausanne, a 3 to 3.5 cm incision is made along the underside of the breast, the breast tissue is lifted, a pocket is formed, and finally a breast implant is inserted. Breast implants can be placed under the pectoral muscle or under the mammary gland above the pectoral muscle. The choice of implant location depends on various factors such as: the size of your breasts before the procedure, the shape of your breasts, the elasticity of your skin, the thickness of the fat layer, and the type of implant. The procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.

After the procedure

You can go home on the day of the operation in Lausanne. Prophylactic antibiotics and painkillers must be taken for 7 days. The medication is included in the package. If the implant is placed under the chest muscle, the pain may be more pronounced during the first two weeks. For a few weeks, the sensation in the breast may be altered. Some patients return to work 3 to 4 days after the operation. There is no medical reason not to do so as long as it is office work. The dressing is changed after one week. The patient must wear a Marena® sports bra at all times for 8 weeks until the swelling subsides and the scars heal. Light physical activity can be resumed after just a few days. Sports can be resumed after 8 weeks. To make the scar as invisible as possible, scar treatment should be started after three weeks. Special ointments for scar treatment should be applied three times a day. Massage promotes absorption of the cream. We also recommend wearing a silicone dressing, ideally for three to six months. As long as the scar is red or pink, you should protect it from the sun. If you have any questions, you can always contact us personally by phone using our emergency number.

Risks and side effects

In principle, every operation carries certain risks, such as infection or hematoma. The risk of infection is reduced to less than 1% at the Bellefontaine Clinic thanks to our various preventive measures (no-touch technique, antibiotics, etc.). Specific complications may arise during this operation, although they are quite rare: implant slippage, implant rotation, double bubble. Loss of sensation in the nipple is very rare. Breast implants have evolved and improved over time. Due to their high quality and safety, the latest generation of breast implants only need to be replaced in the event of complications. With textured implants, a rare tumor called ALCL has been found to occur. There have been no reported cases of ALCL with smooth implants.

Improved techniques
and latest-generation Motiva Ergonomix implants:

Numerous scientific publications and the latest generation of Motiva Ergonomix implants have significantly improved the procedure and results of breast augmentation. Surgical techniques have been refined to achieve more natural-looking breasts, a shorter recovery time, and reduced risks:

– Insertion of the latest generation of Motiva Ergonomix nanotextured breast implants to reduce capsular contracture

– Cohesive silicone gel with a natural feel

– No drain required

– Same-day discharge

– Dual Plane technique: the implant is positioned behind the muscle at the top and behind the gland at the bottom.

– Ultra-short scar of 3 to 3.5 cm

– Reduced risk of infection using Funnel Keller

Our “specialty”: the ultra-short incision of 3 to 3.5 cm.

Thanks to the latest technology, the incision can now be made extremely short. Through a short skin incision (3 to 3.5 cm) in the breast fold, Dr. Favre forms a pocket into which he inserts the breast implant. This is inserted in a completely sterile manner, without touching the skin, using the Funnel Keller “funnel” technique.

Our “No Touch” Technique

Although breast augmentation with implants is a routine procedure, it is still a surgical procedure. Like any other operation, it carries certain risks. The risk of infection is one of our greatest concerns.
The innovative “no touch” technique developed by Funnel Keller avoids touching the implant when inserting it into the breast. This significantly reduces the risk of infection and tissue trauma, thereby also reducing post-operative pain.
As an additional measure to reduce risk, we always wear two sterile gloves, one on top of the other, during the operation. If there is a manufacturing defect and therefore a small hole in the glove, the risk can be minimized. In addition, during breast surgery, there is a risk that bacteria from the mammary gland can pass from the inside to the outside through the connection to the nipple. At the Bellefontaine Clinic in Lausanne, we can prevent this by covering the nipple with a waterproof patch after disinfecting the breast.

Breast implants in front of or behind the muscle:
the dual plane technique?

This question always comes up during consultations and is frequently asked by patients. Our goal is to simplify things.

Position in front of the muscle

In a patient with thick subcutaneous tissue and a fold greater than 3 cm when the skin is pinched, the pre-muscular position is ideal. The implant is then perfectly concealed and there is no point in positioning it behind the muscle in a dual plane.

The position partly behind the muscle: dual plane

In a patient with thick subcutaneous tissue and a fold greater than 3 cm when the skin is pinched, the pre-muscular position is ideal. The implant is then perfectly concealed and there is no need to position it behind the muscle in a dual plane.

General information

You decide: Breast augmentation with implants, fat, or composite. Breasts that are too small, slightly sagging or asymmetrical can be corrected with implants. The latest generation of prostheses have undergone enormous development and improvement in recent years. If the breasts are corrected using implants, a small incision of 3 to 3.5 cm is usually made along the underside of the breast. To best meet your needs, we have a range of implants that you can try out before the procedure. At the Bellefontaine Clinic, you can have breast augmentation with a Motiva implant, a round implant, or a teardrop-shaped “anatomical implant” that fits your breast perfectly—in other words, a customized breast augmentation. We generally recommend an increase of one to two cup sizes. This means that if you currently wear an A cup bra, we can typically achieve a C cup by enlarging your breast. With more than two cup sizes, the risk of complications is higher. In addition to breast augmentation with implants, we also offer breast augmentation using your own fat using the Beauli technique – breast lipofilling. For patients who do not want implants in their body and want a slight to moderate increase, breast augmentation with autologous fat is the right method. During this procedure, we remove your own fat cells using gentle “Body Jet” liposuction from one or more areas of the body and transplant them into the breast. In some cases, we can also offer composite breast augmentation, which is a technique that combines the two methods described above, i.e., implants and fat injection. Lipofilling involves injecting fat around the implant to conceal its contours and correct volume defects in the cleavage area.
