Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) ou lipofilling des fesses à Lausanne

Brazilian butt lift (bbl) or buttock lipofilling

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or buttock lipofilling is the flagship procedure at the Bellefontaine Clinic in Lausanne. Shaped and voluminous buttocks are synonymous with health and beauty and allow you to look stunning in a swimsuit. However, not everyone is lucky enough to have perfectly round and shapely buttocks, and we can also experience a loss of volume due to aging, childbirth, and other factors, which is why some people sometimes resort to buttock lipofilling. The BBL procedure involves removing excess fat cells from one part of the body, such as the love handles, stomach, or back, and injecting them into targeted areas of the buttocks. If you also have loose skin before the procedure, we can tighten the skin without additional scarring using the revolutionary Renuvion technique. The BBL procedure treats flat buttocks, deflated buttocks, small buttocks, and hip dips.

The price of buttock injections is given during a consultation at the clinic and can be estimated when photos of the area to be treated are sent to the surgeon. BBL surgery is at the patient’s expense.

How does a Brazilian butt lift work?

Before the procedure

During the initial consultation, we make sure that buttock lipofilling is right for you. To do this, we ask questions about your general health. We measure your body weight, height, body fat percentage, and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer. The areas to be treated are marked and discussed with you in front of a mirror. We discuss the small skin incisions required and the technique we will use. A blood test is necessary before the procedure. If liposuction of the abdomen is desired, an ultrasound scan is always performed to check for hernias. We recommend that you stop smoking three weeks before and three weeks after the operation.

During the procedure

To ensure a harmonious and natural result, the problem areas are marked while you are standing. Once you are lying down, the surgical area is disinfected and covered with a sterile drape. A tumescent solution is then injected into the marked areas through very small incisions in the skin, measuring just 3 to 4 millimeters. It contains painkillers and medication to relieve any bruising that may occur. Depending on the surface area and height of the layer, different suction cannulas are used. In order to achieve the best possible result, several intraoperative checks are carried out with the patient standing up. The fat is then processed and injected into the buttocks under deep sedation or general anesthesia. Immediately after buttock lipostructure, the patient will be given a suitable dressing and a compression belt to support the skin's adaptation process. The operation is normally performed on an outpatient basis and takes three to four hours.

After the procedure

Some loss of volume should be expected after buttock lipostructure, as not all fat cells will survive after transplantation into the tissue. Therefore, patients should use a special BBL cushion when sitting down to achieve the best results. After buttock lipostructure, you will need to take antibiotics for three days. To avoid irregularities, LPG Endermologie treatment is strongly recommended one week after the procedure in the areas where liposuction was performed. Regular wearing of a compression garment is absolutely necessary. For three weeks, it becomes a companion—day and night—and is only removed for showering. Any swelling and bruising will disappear after just a few days. After two to three days of rest, you can resume your normal social activities. You can start exercising again after three weeks. Maintaining a stable weight is important for achieving optimal results. Good results are visible four weeks after the procedure, but the final results can only be assessed six months after the procedure.

Risks and side effects

In areas where liposuction has been performed, the skin may be slightly less sensitive to touch. Sensitivity returns in the weeks after the procedure. Bruising, redness, and slight swelling are common after the operation. These disappear after a few days or weeks. Infections, local hematomas, and hardening may also occur but are rare. Slight bumps and asymmetries are also possible. As we regularly check the patient's standing position during the procedure, the risk of a bump or asymmetry after the operation is low. The EVL technique is the only technique in the world that avoids the risk of fat embolism. The injection of fat into the hip dips alone does not carry a risk of fat embolism.

Our EVL technique – 100% safety and 30% more fat!

EVL is simply the safest and most modern way to perform buttock augmentation with fat. Some countries have banned buttock augmentation if it is not performed using EVL.

The main features of EVL include the use of a curved vibrating cannula that creates space as the fat is injected. This allows larger volumes of fat to be transferred with greater precision than is possible with a syringe. The larger diameter of the cannula makes it less likely to perforate a vein or vessel. The curved cannula can be rotated to increase its effectiveness.
This revolutionary procedure achieves toned, muscular-looking results and allows for higher-quality fat grafting. This procedure also allows up to 30% more fat to be injected during the same session.

With the EVL technique, your safety is fundamentally guaranteed.

Safe BBL versus Classic BBL

In the past, and unfortunately still today in some cases, doctors have injected fat into the buttock muscle to perform a BBL. The idea, in addition to giving the buttocks more volume, was also to increase the survival rate of the fat by placing it in an environment rich in blood vessels. However, numerous studies have shown the risk of accidentally injecting fat into the deep veins of the pelvis when injecting fat into the muscles, which can cause a complication that must be avoided at all costs: fat embolism.

To minimize this risk, there is now Safe BBL. This is a technique that uses ultrasound during surgery when injecting fat into the buttocks. By ensuring that all fat cells are injected only into the layer of fat above the muscle, the risk of fat embolism is greatly reduced. Sometimes patients think that it is only the amount of fat injected that can cause complications. In reality, it is mainly how and where the fat is injected that is important.

By combining EVL techniques with ultrasound-guided Safe BBL, buttock lipofilling has become significantly safer than abdominoplasty. To our knowledge, we are currently the pioneers of this technique in Switzerland. At the Bellefontaine Clinic, we have not yet had any cases of fat embolism.

Hip Dips – What are they?

Hip dips is a recent term that refers to the hollows that can sometimes be seen on the outer sides of the buttocks. They are also known as “violin hips,” and the scientific term is “trochanteric depressions.”

These depressions cannot be “corrected” simply by working out your glutes and trying to build muscle in your thighs or buttocks. Hip depressions are either a hereditary phenomenon that cannot be changed or a phenomenon caused by excess fat. In the latter case, diet and/or exercise can sometimes help reduce the appearance of hip dips. However, even if you lose weight in this area, your overall shape will generally remain the same, meaning that you will still have a dip even after losing a few pounds.

To correct hip dips, we can perform lipofilling in this area: liposuction removes fat from another part of the body—usually the love handles, stomach, or saddlebags—and the fat grafting procedure places the fat in the hollow of the buttocks.

Correcting hip dips does not necessarily involve increasing the volume of the buttocks, as in the example below.

The different buttock shapes achieved with lipofilling

As you can see in the attached image, there are four buttock shapes: A, C, H, and V. Depending on the basic characteristics of the patient’s buttocks, Dr. Favre will work to achieve the desired buttock shape. Certain shapes are statistically considered more attractive. We will explain to the patient what can be achieved in her specific case.

A-shaped buttocks

This shape is feminine but is less commonly requested than the C shape.

C-shaped buttocks

Round buttocks are very feminine. This is the buttock shape most frequently requested by patients.

General information

Buttock lipofilling is a technique for augmenting the buttocks by injecting the patient’s own fat, offering many advantages over a simple buttock implant. It not only increases volume, but also modifies the contours of the buttock and tightens the sagging buttock to make it more beautiful. Lipofilling gives a more natural result than buttock prostheses. Because of its high blood supply, the buttocks are in principle an ideal recipient region for fat augmentation. 300 to 1200 ml of fat per buttock may be required for large buttocks or for very flabby skin! Depending on individual taste and the patient’s basic morphology, we try to reproduce the desired buttock shape. Of course, it’s difficult to get exactly what a patient wants if her basic morphology makes it difficult. But this will be clearly explained to you during the consultation, to avoid any disappointment. Not all lipofillings are created equal. We use the PAL microaire technique with EVL for fat reinsertion. It’s the only technique in the world that not only avoids the risk of fat embolism, but also makes it possible to increase fat volume by up to 30%! To achieve this, we perform low-pressure liposuction and work in a closed circuit to avoid deterioration caused by contact with air. This ensures a perfect match between the fat removal and reinjection systems. During the procedure, between 50 and 90% of fat cells survive. Scars are virtually invisible, measuring less than 4 mm. You are a good candidate for buttock lipofilling if : – you have sufficient fat reserves in the hips and other areas for lipofilling – you are a non-smoker – you have a stable weight – you lead a generally healthy lifestyle and are in good usual health
