Gynecomastia or adipomastia
Gynecomastia is caused by excessive development of the breast glands in men, giving their chest a feminine appearance. Gynecomastia in men is very often distressing. There is also a second type of gynecomastia where fat accumulates in the male chest, known as pseudogynecomastia. In the case of gynecomastia, the gland can be removed through a small incision in the nipple. In the case of pseudogynecomastia, the fat can be removed by liposuction.

How is gynecomastia performed?
Before the procedure
During the initial consultation, we will ensure that male breast correction is a procedure that will meet your expectations. To this end, we will clarify any questions about your general state of health. We will measure your body weight, height, the thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer, and the presence of excess glandular tissue in the breasts. An ultrasound examination and blood test before the operation are standard. If you have too much fat in your breasts, the treatment will consist of liposuction of the chest. If you have too much glandular tissue in your breasts, we will remove the excess glandular tissue through a small incision in the nipple area. If the skin is very loose, other procedures such as a breast lift may be recommended. During the initial consultation, the areas to be treated will be marked and you will have the opportunity to check the area in front of a mirror. We strongly recommend that you stop smoking three weeks before and three weeks after the operation.
During the procedure
On the day of the gynecomastia treatment, we take photos of the chest before the procedure while you are standing. We then draw the future contour of the breast, also while you are standing. If you have opted for general anesthesia, an anesthesiologist will inform you of the procedure before the operation. The procedure lasts approximately 1 to 3 hours. In the case of classic gynecomastia, the incision is made around the lower part of the areola. In the case of pseudo-gynecomastia, small incisions of a few millimeters are made around the breast. At the end of the operation, a special breast bandage is applied with a compression garment. After only a few hours, you can go home.
After the procedure
A compression garment will be put on immediately after the procedure. It promotes the skin's adjustment process and must be worn for at least four weeks. The pain after gynecomastia treatment can be compared to muscle soreness. It is easily treated with standard painkillers, which you can continue to take at home for the first few days. You will also need to take antibiotics for 4 days after the procedure. Some patients return to work 2 days after the operation. There is no medical reason not to do so as long as it is office work. The dressing is changed after one week. Light physical activity can be resumed after just a few days. After 6 weeks, you can resume sports activities. To make the scar as invisible as possible, scar treatment should be started after 3 weeks. Special scar ointments should be applied to the affected areas three times a day. Massage helps the cream to be absorbed. As long as the scar is red or pink, you should protect it from the sun.
Risks and side effects
In principle, every operation carries certain risks, such as infection or hematoma. Bruising, redness, and slight swelling regularly occur after the operation. These subside within two weeks after the procedure. A loss of sensation in the nipple or breast skin usually disappears after a few months, but may also persist permanently.
General information
Gynecomastia is particularly distressing for men suffering from this condition. There are two main types of gynecomastia: classic gynecomastia and pseudo-gynecomastia, also known as adipomastia. Gynecomastia is caused by excess glandular tissue, while pseudogynecomastia is caused by excess fat in the male breasts. Gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia usually occur on both sides. Gynecomastia can occur during puberty. It is a real psychological burden for young men. In general, it usually resolves on its own by the end of puberty and therefore does not require treatment. If gynecomastia has been present for more than two years and has not decreased in volume, a hormonal or drug-related cause should be investigated. In this case, an ultrasound and blood test should be performed. If the results are normal, only surgery will be able to correct the breast enlargement. In the case of pseudogynecomastia, the breast enlargement is the result of fat deposits in the male breasts. If neither exercise nor diet can correct pseudogynecomastia, liposuction of the chest is then indicated.
