Vaser liposuction
The Bellefontaine Clinic has specialized in liposuction for many years. VASER® is the latest technological innovation in liposuction and body sculpting. It removes more fat than traditional liposuction and, in certain carefully selected patients, can reveal the muscles in the abdomen, chest, or arms. Vaser also has a greater effect on skin retraction than traditional liposuction and, in some cases, also has an effect on cellulite. To maximize skin retraction after liposuction, we also use Renuvion® technology, which can be used immediately after Vaser® treatment. This combination of Vaser®, Renuvion®, and Microaire® has now established itself as the gold standard among the world’s leading plastic surgeons specializing in body contouring, and we are the first clinic in French-speaking Switzerland to use this combination.
How does Vaser liposuction work?
Before the procedure
Because each patient is different, our approach begins with a personalized consultation with Dr. Favre. During this key step, we assess your overall condition and your goals to determine if Vaser liposuction is right for you. Vaser liposuction is used in all cases of high-definition liposuction and also in patients with a lot of fibrosis under the skin (patients who have already had liposuction or after pregnancy).
Medical analysis:
- Assessment of your weight, the thickness of the subcutaneous fat and, above all, the subcutaneous fibrosis.
- Check for the possible presence of diastasis (separation of the abdominal muscles, often post-pregnancy) if liposuction is performed on the stomach. In the event of diastasis, a specific procedure may be recommended.
Skin examination: If the skin is very loose, we consider additional solutions such as Renuvion or abdominoplasty.
Preliminary examinations: A blood test and/or abdominal ultrasound are always performed to rule out any risks (such as the presence of hernias).
During the procedure
- If the procedure is performed under general anesthesia, you will need to fast. In the case of local anesthesia, a light snack is allowed, but without excessive fluids.
- The areas to be treated are marked while you are standing and are confirmed together with Dr. Favre before the procedure.
The surgical procedure:
- Disinfection is carried out in the operating room while standing before lying down on the operating table.
- A tumescent solution (Klein's solution) is injected through small incisions of a few millimeters in discreet areas. This solution, containing a local anesthetic and adrenaline, reduces pain and minimizes bleeding.
- Use of Vaser technology: Ultrasound targets the fat with precision, even in cases of significant fibrosis, while preserving the surrounding tissue. This liquefies the fat so that a larger amount can be removed. Vaser does not suck out the fat.
- PAL microcannulas: Suction is performed with the PAL microair system to ensure a uniform result.
Post-procedure checks:
Several checks are carried out with the patient standing up to ensure there are no irregularities.
After the procedure
Appropriate compression: A specialized girdle (Marena®) with an antiseptic layer is applied immediately after the procedure and must be worn day and night for three weeks.
Medical follow-up: Dr. Favre and his team provide attentive support, with regular consultations to monitor your recovery.
Post-operative recommendations:
- Limit the amount of time you spend standing (maximum 2 to 3 hours per day according to our Bellefontaine post-operative protocol) during the first two weeks to avoid edema and seromas, which could cause irregularities.
- Some discharge of the tumescent solution is normal during the first 12 hours. You may shower after 48 hours.
- A course of antibiotics is prescribed for 5 days to prevent infection.
Pain and swelling management: Cramp-like pain is possible for one to two weeks. To promote recovery, LPG Endermologie massage sessions can begin 7 to 10 days after liposuction.
Risks and side effects
- Temporary problems: A decrease in sensitivity in the treated areas may last up to 6 months. Bruising usually disappears after 2 to 3 weeks. Vaser liposuction can sometimes cause a little more fibrosis after the procedure.
- Rare complications: Thanks to Dr. Favre's expertise and strict protocols, the risks of asymmetry, infection, or thrombosis are minimized.

General information
What is the difference between Vaser® liposuction and conventional liposuction?
Can the musculature under the fat be made visible?
High-definition 4D Vaser liposuction is only possible on people whose muscles are at least moderately well trained – and where the muscles can be felt under the fat deposits before the procedure. High-definition Vaser liposuction is therefore suitable for patients who have good skin quality and a BMI of no more than 27 kg/m2. The high-definition VASER method allows targeted suction to permanently reveal aesthetic muscle contours in areas such as the stomach, chest, or arms.
