Liposuccion ou lipoaspiration à Lausanne

Liposuction or liposuction

Liposuction is OUR area of expertise at the Bellefontaine Clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland. As liposuction specialists, we use the latest Vaser technology, which allows us to “dissolve” fat before suctioning it out. This allows for greater fat removal and, in some cases, brings out the muscles—the famous six-pack abs: HD liposuction. The fat removed through liposuction can then be used for lipofilling, such as a Brazilian butt lift or breast lipofilling. If you have loose skin, we can tighten it without additional scarring using the revolutionary Renuvion technique. The combination of Vaser®, Renuvion®, and Microaire® is currently established as the gold standard among the world’s leading plastic surgeons specializing in body contouring, and we are the first clinic in French-speaking Switzerland to use them together for liposuction.

How does liposuction work?

Before the procedure

During the initial consultation for your liposuction, we make sure that liposuction is a treatment that will meet your expectations. To this end, we clarify any questions about your general state of health. We measure your body weight, height, body fat percentage, and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer. If the skin is very loose, other procedures such as arm, tummy, or thigh lifts may be recommended. During the initial consultation, the areas to be treated will be marked while you are standing and checked in front of a mirror. A blood test is required before the procedure. When abdominal liposuction is desired, an ultrasound scan is always performed to check for hernias. Ideally, you should stop smoking three weeks before and three weeks after the liposuction operation. Blood-thinning medications such as NSAIDs should be stopped 10 days before your liposuction.

During the procedure

For a harmonious and natural result, the problem areas are marked while you are standing. While you are lying down, the surgical area for your liposuction is disinfected and covered with a sterile dressing. A tumescent solution is then injected through very small incisions—only 3 to 4 mm—in the marked areas. It contains painkillers and medication to relieve any bruising that may occur later. The suction is then performed using micro-suction cannulas. In order to achieve the best possible result, several checks are carried out while you are standing. This process helps to avoid irregularities. The duration of the operation depends on the amount of fat to be removed and the type of anesthesia. It usually takes between one and four hours. The procedure can usually be performed on an outpatient basis. Between 1 and 4 liters of fat can be removed in a single session. For health reasons, it is not recommended to remove more than 5 liters of fat per session during your liposuction.

After the procedure

A Marena® compression garment will be applied immediately after the procedure. It supports the skin's healing process and must be worn day and night for three weeks. During the first night after the procedure, fluid from the tumescent solution will leak from the small incisions. You can shower for the first time 48 hours after liposuction. You will need to take antibiotics for three days as a preventive measure. The pain is often cramp-like and appears a few hours after the procedure. It is most intense after 3 to 4 days and then generally disappears after 1 week. One week after liposuction, the treated area is often swollen and hard. The swelling and hardness decrease after 2 to 3 weeks and disappear completely after 3 to 6 months. To avoid irregularities and hardening of the treated areas due to soft tissue healing, LPG Endermologie treatment is strongly recommended one week after liposuction. Sensitivity disorders are common after this procedure. Sensitivity returns within a few weeks to a few months. Maintaining a stable weight is important for achieving optimal final results. The final result can only be assessed a few weeks to 3 months after the procedure. If you have any questions, you can always contact us personally by phone using our emergency number after your liposuction.

Risks and side effects

Sensitivity issues are common after this procedure. Sensitivity returns within a few weeks to a few months. Bruising, redness, and slight swelling regularly occur after the operation but subside over time. Slight dimpling and asymmetry are also possible. As we carry out regular checks during the procedure, the risk of dimpling or asymmetry after the operation is low. Infections and hematomas are very rare after liposuction. The risk of thrombosis or embolism is extremely rare when local anesthesia is used for your liposuction.

General information

Despite diets and hours of exercise, many people are unable to get rid of certain areas of unwanted fat. Liposuction, also known as liposuction, is the method of choice for permanently reshaping the body. Good candidates for liposuction are those who have localized excess fat, elastic skin, a stable weight, and realistic expectations. Liposuction is not a means of losing weight and is not recommended for obese patients. Patients with a BMI of 30 to 32 have a significantly higher risk of post-operative complications, which is why we do not operate on these patients. However, in certain carefully selected cases involving patients with a BMI of less than 32, diffuse excess fat may benefit from liposuction and help with secondary weight loss. This is known as starter liposuction. It is medically advisable not to remove more than 5 to 6 liters of fat per session. Liposuction does not improve stretch marks or cellulite. The procedure is suitable for anyone with sufficient skin tone and can be used to treat the following areas: stomach, hips, saddlebags, thighs, back, knees, arms, buttocks, and chest in men. That's how effective liposuction is!
